Chevra Kadisha
Englewood Chevra Kadisha
The Chevra Kadisha of Englewood has been an integral part of our community since its establishment in 1978. Functioning as an independent communal organization, unaffiliated with any local synagogue or other organization, its mission is to provide burial preparations (Tahara) for its members in accordance with Halacha & Orthodox Jewish customs. In addition, the Chevra is involved with preparing the mourner’s home for shiva, including the provision of shiva chairs & appropriate material for daily tefillah.
The functions of the Chevra Kadisha are carried out by a dedicated group of men and women, all volunteers, who make themselves available at a moment’s notice to provide our services.
The President of the Chevra Kadisha is Dr. Daniel Feuer. He can be reached at 201-741-0335.
The rabbinic advisers of the Chevra Kadisha are the spiritual leaders of Congregation Ahavath Torah, Congregation Shomrei Emunah, East Hill Synagogue, Kehilat Kesher, The Englewood Shtiebel and Young Israel of Fort Lee.
Funeral arrangements are made through the Gutterman Musicant Funeral Chapel in Hackensack, New Jersey. A chapel fee is paid by the member’s family directly to the Gutterman Musicant Funeral Chapel. Members of the Chevra Kadisha of Englewood are eligible for a discount.
The Chevra Kadisha of Englewood is not a “cemetery society” and does not arrange for the acquisition or sale of burial plots.
We urge all members of our extended communities to become members and supporters of the Chevra Kadisha of Englewood.
The Chevra Kadisha of Englewood is a tax exempt organization under Section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
